HISTORY

PNULISAA was a dream of our mentors and fellow graduates, particularly those who had passed to the next life. This is an off-shoot of the Philippine Normal College Library Science Alumni Association which was organized sometime in the ‘80s. Attempts were made in the past to re-organize, but due to some reasons it was only in October 2000 when the Philippine Normal University Library and Information Science Alumni Association (PNU-LISAA) was officially established.

On September 2, 2000, Dr. Linda M. Tayona, head of the Library Science Department, invited library science alumni to a reunion sponsored by batch ’69. She intended to gather as many alumni as possible to help in the centennial project of the university.

The move was initiated by some faculty members of PNU LS: Mr. Miguel Cobaria, Dr. Linda Tayona, and Dr. Mary Orendain. A steering committee was formed to brain storm and plan actions. Then a call for a general assembly meeting of alumni was announced.

In October 2000, the participants of seventy eight alumni came to attend. The assembly elected the first set of officers with Mrs. Elnora Conti of Thomas Jefferson Information Center as the first president, Placida Limpin of Assumption School in Makati as the vice, Dorothy Geronimo of Asian Development Bank as the secretary, and Mr. Medel Bautista of Xavier School as the PRO.
