This seminar-workshop intended to provide intensive discussion on collection development, focusing on maintaining a balanced collection in terms of print and non-print resources, as well as hands-on instruction on writing a collection development policy.


Specifically, it aimed to:

  • provide knowledge on the changing trends of library collection development;

  • discuss the methods and processes in selecting resources;

  • provide techniques, strategies and current practices in collection acquisition;

  • discuss the procedures in data gathering and statistical treatments for collection developers;

  • emphasize the necessity of evaluating the collection through a carefully-designed collection development policy; and,

  • provide hands-on workshop on writing a collection development policy to reinforce the knowledge, strategies and techniques discussed in the previous sessions.
